Matanuska

The Matanuska is the Marine Highway Ferry we are sailing on today from Juneau to Prince Ruppert.  I think Matanuska is a native word, roughly translated meaning, "a very very large canoe"

 Launch at 5:45 CDT
Arrive Tuesday 3:00pm CDT

There is a link to track ships should you care to check it out:

Nap

After a helicopter ride and walking on a glacier, watching salmon spawning by the thousands, and watching bald eagles eat salmon, I took a nap in the sun in downtown Juneau. The rain took a much needed day off.

Florida knows how to do rain

When you're sitting on the beach in Florida, it's not uncommon to have a big rain come by in the after noon and drop a half inch of rain.  This is a perfect time for a nap*.  In Juneau, which is a rain forest**, thy drag out that half inch of rain over a week or more.  I underestimated the rain in a rain forest.

* If the rain does not come, you tell your kids that an hour is required after the ingestion of any food before returning to the water.
**This is unpublished.  The tourism commission has a guy named Vinny that will likely come looking for me when I publish this.

Juneau

The first night we free camped in a gravel parking lot next to a gas station.
The next day we drove around town scoping things out and then I worked some.
Then ended up at a nice camp ground about 12 miles from downtown, out past the airport.
Today I worked and then we went downtown and rode the tram up the mountain which is right at the docks.  Almost straight up 1700'.

I have some work to get done and there are other things to see, so we don't sail out till Sunday noon.
