After Ken removed the mystery leaking switch from my parking brake system and plugged the hole, I decided I'd just go without one after all the systems seemed to be working.
We stopped for lunch at the Cafe in Three Forks. Best homemade chicken noodle soup I have ever had! Michele concurred. (this happens on occasion). There is a Sacagawea statue there. Apparently some silverware went missing on the Lewis and Clark expedition near this site and that's how the town got it's name. (I could not verify this).
I worked while Michele drove the big bus Northward. We got a hankerin' for Mexican food and pulled into Poison, MT..........not a good sign........hey, wait.......it's POLSON. After fajitas and a stroll through the quiet burg, we spent the night next to a city park. The rate of $0 sure beats the $48.50 for the previous nights North of Yellowstone.
This morning, after a cup of coffee on my front porch (lawn chair), we rolled up to Somers, MT on the North end of Flathead Lake. I went for a run and Michele walked five miles. We just weren't in any hurry and ate some leftovers while watching fisherman retrieve their boats after a morning quest for lake trout.
After grabbing a frappe and latte at a roadside barista hut, (not to be confused with barrister) we sauntered up to Kalispell and we've spent the rest of the day loafing in the Home Depot parking lot. (free WIFI). It's been raining most of the day. I've researched Glacier Park status, routes into Canada, handheld GPS units, did a little business, started hooking up a power inverter, and had supper at the IHOP.
Feels like vacation!
Saw your rig today in the Kalispell Walmart lot and had to give you a look. BTW it's Somers, not Sumer.
ReplyDeleteSince I spent a few years in AK, I will watch your progress with interest. Best wishes, and I hope you find some sunshine!
Hi Vickie. Thanks for the note. I looked up the town name and still got it wrong. Seems they used to really do the lumber. Yes, I'm about ready for some sunshine.
ReplyDeleteYes, huge business there back In the day. My great uncle was an accountant for the tie plant back then, and my husband's uncles had a butcher shop, and they stole horses from the reservation in their spare time.
DeleteHoping for a trip update soon.
Saw your RV in Kalispell near McDs yesterday. Enjoy your trip!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Glad for some sunshine today !
ReplyDeleteSteve,
ReplyDeleteDo you have a copy of "Milepost"? I think that is the name of THE book for traversing the ALCAN. Les
Back when I first decided I was going to Alaska (35 years.........see blog post 1), Claude gave me a copy of the Milepost. The drool finally ruined it.
ReplyDeleteI have my version and it should come in handy presuming I eventually reach the Alaskan Highway !
Thanks Les.
